President Muhammadu Buhari today signedinto law the national minimum wage bill which prescribed a national minimumwage of N30,000 for Nigerian workers, by this action the bill now becomes anAct of Parliament.
The bill which was earlier passed by theNational Assembly, will now take effect from Thursday April 18, 2019.
Senior Special Assistant to the Presidenton National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, disclosed this development toState House correspondents.
With the signing of the bill, FederalWorkers in the country are expected to be the first beneficiaries of theincrement.
It will be recalled that President Buhariconstituted a National Advisory Committee on Minimum Wage, Chaired by MrBismarck Rewane, MD/CEO Financial Derivatives, to which a report was submittedat the set timeline.
The National Council of State alsoin a recent meeting chaired by the President approved a national minimum wageof N27,000 for the 36 states, to which the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC)protested.
President of the NLC Comrade Ayuba P.Wabba warned that the Union would not accept disparity in payments between theFederal and State Governments.
