WIP is a brainchild of the New York City Bar, aimed at promoting diversity in the legal profession. In recent years, WIP has encouraged the establishment of WIP chapters in Latin America and across Sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria.
This event marks the official launch of WIP Nigeria. WIP Nigeria aims to serve as a learning and leadership resource center for the development of the Nigerian female lawyer thus impacting their lives and statuses through initiatives and programs that address challenges encountered by female lawyers, while providing an inclusive and safe space to network, seek support, develop capacity and leadership skills and mentorship.
Statistics have shown that while women enter the profession in equal numbers to men, a high level of attrition occurs mostly before or at the mid-level stage of the women’s careers. In view of the foregoing, the launch event will, amongst others, be presenting results from a survey on the theme: "Why Women Leave Law" and foster exploratory dialogue among panelists, who are renowned female lawyers and industry experts, on the reasons for female attrition at mid to senior levels within the legal profession, and how to manage the challenges faced by women in the profession.
