The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC under the leadership of Comrade Joe Ajaero is planning a nationwide industrial action, over the cash crunch workers and households are experiencing in the country.

The NLC President Comrade directed public sector workers in the country to embark on the strike beginning from Wednesday, March 29th,2023.

Affiliate unions under the NLC were instructed to be on standby and prepare to picket all branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria across the country.

It will be recalled that the working committee of the NLC last week gave the Federal Government an ultimatum, to address the adverse effects of the naira redesign policy of the CBN.

Despite the ultimatum and the eventual compliance of the CBN with the Supreme Court Order on the extension of the deadline for the use of the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes till December 31st, 2023,  the cash crunch persisted in the country affecting households and businesses.

According to him “Last week, we gave an ultimatum for the review of the cash crunch bedevilling the country, but we have discovered to our dismay that as at this moment not much effort has been made to ameliorate the situation, the government is still foot dragging on these issues we raised.”

The NLC President also decried the fact that the situation appears to be getting worse as workers cannot access cash to pay fares to work, nor can they buy food for their families.
