FITC Conference: The Value of Building Optimum Employee Experiences

Organizationshave been tasked with the responsibilities of exploring initiatives that canenhance the future of work, the remote working experience, and also take intoconsideration building an optimum employee experience. Rosemond Ebe-Arthur,Group Head, Human Capital Management & Development, First Bank Nigeria made these points during a plenary session in the recentlyconcluded employee engagement and experience conference organized by FinancialInstitutions Training Centre (FITC).

 

Shesaid that due to the need for business continuity, businesses globally havemade significant adjustments. According to her a recent Mckinsey reportsurveying over 800 employees, revealed that organizations have stepped up incritical areas during the COVID-19 crisis especially with the quick strategyreviews on what they delivered,  focus on employee-wellbeing, whodelivered what, and the communication process to drive engagement.

 

Sheadded that employee experience is necessary for the global work environment asmost employees are in search of great culture, values, leadership, growth anddevelopment, and a good network with less attention to monthly income. Sheadded that the relevance of an employee equates to improved engagement which inturn would drive productivity.

 

Ebe-Arthuremphasized the need for organizations to build on the trust that enabled theshift to remote work in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Speakingfurther she said that the next normal would require looking at the 4Ws of work;work, worker, workplace, and the world, to take appropriate actions to improvethe employee experience and connect the employee to organizational values.

 

Shestated that building an employee experience and satisfaction in the next normalrequired that companies continually review how workers stay connected at workby understanding the best situation for work from an employee perspective,defining clear policies around new ways of working, communicating, creatingopportunities for collaboration between different worker groups irrespective ofthe workplace and staying ahead of global best practices for work.

 

Inorder to foster a sense of belonging to improve organization effectiveness,Ebe-Arthur mentioned that feedback was important, while it was critical to acton the feedback received.

 

TheHR expert further advised that organizations should focus on building atransparent work culture and be specific with roles and job descriptions as itwould lead to speed and agility. She also mentioned that there was a need toupskill, reskill, retool as well as build a positive work environment foroptimum employee performance.
