Lagos Business School Set to Host the 2020 Africa Academy of Management Conference

Lagos BusinessSchool is set to play host to a gathering of African management scholars, practitionersand academics at the 5th edition of the Africa Academy of Management Conferencescheduled for the 8th of January, 2020.

 

Themed 'Globalisation, Pan-Africanism and the African Business Climate', the week-longconference will facilitate dialogue and debate on the deployment of resourcesand alignment of business opportunities to facilitate sustainability and accessto better living conditions for Africans. The theme will be exploring twodistinct aspects of the newly emerging African business environment: how external actors invest, relocate, and interact withindigenous African businesses, and how internal African businesses move acrossnational boundaries and explore the Pan-African environment.

 

Africa-focusedconversations among participants at the Conference will border on topics suchas Strategy and International Management, Public Policy, Administration andNon-Governmental Organisations, Social Issues in Management Sustainability,Entrepreneurship and Small Business, Organisational Behavior and Human ResourceManagement, and Green Management, among others.

 

According toMember, AFAM and Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Professor ChrisOgbechie, "The objective of the AFAM Conference is to broaden the discourse ofdevelopment in Africa by bringing together scholars and industry players whowill chart new courses for sustainable development in Africa. It aligns withLagos Business School's missional imperative of developing responsible leadersfor Africa as we continually seek new collaborations that will advancemanagement practice, leadership and in this case, sustainability in Africa."

 

Earlier in theyear, the Conference called for the submission of academic papers from scholarsin universities across the 36 states of Nigeria. These papers explored issuesrelevant to the conference theme and answered pertinent questions that affectAfrica such as, "how can foreign direct investment be best managed in theAfrican context?", "how can African regional actors compete with internationalfirms?", and "how can local firms be encouraged to globalise, and/or expandacross the African continent?", among many others.

 

This is the first time the AFAM Conference will hold in Nigeria.The biennial event has held successfully in Gaborone and Nairobi in 2014 and 2016,respectively, and in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2018.
