The Lagos Business School Alumni Association (LBSAA) will support talent development in Nigeria to position the country as a leader in skills and human capital in the global market. Mr. Agada Apochi, the President of the LBSAA, disclosed this at the 2022 Presidential dinner, which had as its theme “Africa to the World,” which brought together dignitaries and business leaders that have passed through the prestigious business school.

He acknowledged that talent retention in Nigeria had been a challenge, with thousands of skilled Nigerians migrating to the United States, the United Kingdom, and Countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, North America and South America. The LBSAA President said the focus would be to encourage talent development to make Nigeria globally competitive.

“There is a push factor: the socio-economic factors that make people leave the country for other opportunities. Also, there is the pull factor where countries like the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe are attracting talent. We will work to grow more talents that will support our economy and for us to export to the world”.

According to him, the Alumni will work with the Lagos Business School as it plans to float a “Bond” and called on all members to support the issuance. He also added that the LBSAA would support the LBS plan to float a “Scholarship Scheme” and “Nominate for Sponsorship” people for programs in the school.

Another priority area he identified as the focus for his tenure is “Leadership and Governance,” where he stated that the LBSAA, on the 2022 alumni day, engaged leading Presidential Candidates to discuss the “Leadership Imperative.”

He said the LBSAA would also drive governance as part of its agenda and informed stakeholders that the Alumni had achieved significant progress in structuring its secretariat and building its identity.

Dr. Uchenna Uzo, the Faculty Director of LBS, who represented the Dean, Professor Chris Ogbechie, said the institution had been committed to continuous education since its inception. He noted that the LBSAA was established to support the LBS activities, especially in social impact and corporate social responsibility.

“I am delighted to say that the activities of the LBS Alumni Association have continued to uphold the values for which it was created and the traditions of achievement that we all can be proud of,” Ogbechie noted.

The event featured the presentation of awards to Past Presidents who have contributed to the growth of the LBSAA. According to the Financial Times of London, Lagos Business School ranks among the top 50 Global Business Schools in its 2022 Executive Education Ranking.
