Investors Lose N614.35bn as NGXASI Dips by 2.26%; Debt Market Size Declines by 0.10% to Close at N29.13trn; IEFX Rate Appreciates to N428.75

1. EQUITIES MARKET 

 

Nigerian Equities Market dipped further to maintain negative as sell pressure persists while key market indicator closed below 50,000 psychological lines.

 

The NGX All-Share Index dipped by 2.26% to close at 49,350.71 basis points as against 0.46% loss recorded to close at 50,489.73 basis points at the end of the previous trading session. In Naira terms, the NGX Market CAP records N614.35bn loss.

 

YTD, the NGXASI Stands at +15.53% 

The total volume traded declined by -32.14% to close at 140.61m, valued at N1.60bn and traded in 3,895 deals. AIICO was the most traded stock by volume with 14.85m units traded while SEPLAT was the most traded stock by value which is put at N441.75m. 

Sectoral performance was broadly negative as two (2) NGX sector index closed northward, thirteen (13) closed southward while three (3) closed flat. The NGX Banking Index inched up by 0.60% to top the gainers while NGX Premium Index dipped by -5.09% to the losers’ chart.

Gote index dipped by 8.62% to close at 126.46 basis points while Toni index also dipped by 0.02% to close at 109.31 basis points.

At the close of trading, market recorded 12 gainers to 15 losers and 78 unchanged. NEM topped the list of gainers while CORNERST topped the list of losers. 

Thus, market breadth closed negative as the Market Breadth Index (MBI) is put at -0.04x.

Volume and Value Contribution

AIICO led the volume’s chart with 7.17% contribution and closely followed by STERLNBANK and SOVRENINS

 

SEPLAT tops the value’s chart with 27.61% contribution and closely followed by MTNN and GTCO

The FMDQ Debt Market Size declined by 0.10% to close at N29.13trn as against previous figure of N29.16trn.

2.2 Overnight and Open Repo (OPR)

The overnight lending rate closed flat at 15.00% while the Open Repo (OPR) rate expanded by 0.08% to close at 14.83%

 

 

 

3.1 AFEX Indices

The AFEX ACI declined by 0.91% to close at 447.09 points while the AEI closed flat at 206.90 points

 

3.2 AFEX Commodity Prices

Maize declined by -7.84% to top the losers’ chart while other commodities closed flat.

 

3.3 Global Commodity Prices

Gold recorded 0.11% gain while Silver declined by 1.35% as of 11:07 NY time

 

In the energy market, Brent advanced by 1.15% while WTI also advanced by 2.88% as of 10:09AM Central Daylight Time (CDT)

 

 

The naira appreciated by 0.52% at the I&E FX Window to close at N428.75/USD while the NAFEX rate depreciated by 0.31% to close at N425.80
