Innovating Justice Challenge 2019 - Regional Finals Finalists' Announcement

A global community ofjustice entrepreneurs is getting international recognition for making justicesystems more user-friendly. We support innovators that prevent or resolvepeople'spressing justice problems. We do this through data, innovation andtransformation. 

 

On 14 November 2019 meetthe next generation of justice innovators! We are proud to introduce to you thefinalists of the Innovating Justice Challenge at the Consulate-General of theKingdom of the Netherlands, 14A WalterCarrington Crescent,Victoria Island, Lagos. 

 

The West Africa RegionalFinals is one of four events taking place across Africa the NetherlandsMinistry of Foreign Affairs to scout the next generation of promising justiceinnovations preventing or resolving people's most pressing justice needs. 

 

Finalists pitch their ground-breakinginnovations to a jury of international experts who will choose the best three.The winners gain acceptance into HiiL's Justice Accelerator, can receive up to20.000 Euro in grant funding and potential third party investment, tailoredtraining and business development support, access to HiiL's  internationalnetwork of experts and global exposure.

 

Meet ourfinalists:

 

Africlaim

Passengers sufferemotionally, financially, socially and physically when their flights aredelayed or cancelled without notice. Africlaim specializes in securingfinancial and non-financial compensation for African airline passengersinvolved in flight disruptions including cancellations, delays, andoverbooking.

 

Appruve

Many Africans have novalid means of identification and as a result, are excluded from many servicesand benefits including financial services. Appruve is a financial identityinfrastructure that enables financial services to verify and onboard theidentities of individuals and businesses

 

Bankly

Petty traders andmicro-business owners remain unbanked and underserved. Bankly is a savings andcash digitisation platform that allows its customers to save up for emergenciesusing vouchers and an agent network.

 

CommunityPeace Initiative

Communal peace issustained when the conflicting parties are part of the conflict resolutionprocess. Community Peace Initiative seeks to promote peace and justice  inconflicting communities in Northern Nigeria by engaging their traditional andreligious leaders to resolve communal conflicts.

 

Lay Better

Laws and regulations bringjustice only when they can be accessed and understood bythose who need it. Lay Better through its conversational mobile bot Lilianeprovides legal advice in more than 10 areas of law for citizens of BeninRepublic.

 

Sunulex

In order to helpSenegalese citizens understand the law, Sunulex provides them with free shortvideos explaining their rights and procedures of enforcing them. Sunulex alsooffers online access to legal resources for francophone Africa. 

 

The Flemer Project Initiative

To facilitate thedecongestion of Nigerian prisons, The Flemer Project Initiative uses  anincentive-based volunteer system enabled by technology, to provide active legalrepresentationfor indigent pre-trial detainees.

 

Vesicash

Despite the benefits ofe-commerce for both buyers and sellers, it brings with it its own unique typeof disputes. Vesicash is an escrow platform that prevents disputes  anduses its digital dispute resolution mechanism to resolve digital transactiondispute in less than 72hrs.


The Keynote Speech at theRegional Finals will be delivered by Justice Yetunde Adesanya, Chairman of theSmall Claims Court Committee, Lagos State. The Honourable Minister of Industry,Trade and Investment will be speaking onMaking theSDGs a Nigerian Reality through entrepreneurship and innovation and Mr Jan vanWeijen, Consul-General of the Netherlands will deliver the welcome address.
