The House of Representatives Committee on Pensions is scheduled to conduct a public hearing on two bills to amend the Pension Reform Act of 2014 in relation to the Nigeria Police Force.
The reform is meant to achieve two things.
- To exempt the Nigeria Police Force from the contributory pension scheme; and
- To provide that a pensioner shall receive at least 75% of his/her retirement benefits upon retirement and criminalise the undue delay in the payment of pension.
Based on the invitation issued and cited, the public hearing will be conducted on the following bills:
- A Bill for An Act To Amend The Pension Reform Act, 2014 To Provide For Exemption Of The Nigeria Police Force From The Contributory Pension Scheme; And For Related Matters (HB. 1578).
- A Bill For An Act To Amend Sections 1(C), 7(2), 8(1) 18, 24 And 99 Of The Pension Reform Act Cap P50 LFN 2014 By Providing That A Pensioner Shall Receive At Least 75% Of His Retirement Benefits Immediately Upon Retirement And Criminalise The Undue Delay In The Payment Of Pension (HB. 1008)
The Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, 22nd February, 2022 at the Conference Room 231, House of Representatives New Building National Assembly Complex, Abuja by 10.00 a.m.
