FEC Approves Free Broadband to 20 Airports, Others and Dualization of Akure to Ado-Ekiti Road

The Federal Executive Council, during its weekly meeting on Wednesday March 29th, 2023 has approved two Nigeria Communications Commission memos for the provision of free broadband to 20 Nigerian airports across 6 geopolitical zones, 43 higher institutions (18 approved earlier) and 6 market/SME hubs.

 

It also approved the dualization of Akure-Ado Ekiti road, in two sections (Ondo section and Ekiti section) with a completion period of 24 to 30 months. 

 

The road is in the latest batch of those to be financed by the NNPC Limited under Executive Order 7. 

 

The contract award is a new one that follows the revocation/cancellation of an earlier awarded one on the grounds of non-performance. The contract has now been re-awarded as 2 separate sections to new contractors.

 

For the Ministry of Transportation, the FEC also approved the Nigeria Ports Authority memo for the purchase of 2 Nos X80-Tonne Tugboats to support operations in Lekki Deep Sea Port.

 

In addition, the Ministry of Environment also disclosed the approval of memos for construction of a new 100-bed Specialist Hospital, as well as construction of a new Center of Excellence for Environmental Restoration in Ogoniland, Rivers state.

 

President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR presided over the FEC Meeting which was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Head of Service and Cabinet Ministers.
