As businesses face increasing operating cost, experts at the AXA Mansard Sustainability Webinar have identified sustainable business practices as ways to reduce cost, protect the environment and increase profitability.

The sustainability webinar was part of the week-long AXA Week for Good - a week in commemoration of AXA's international volunteering programme called AXA Hearts in Action. AXA strives to play a positive role in society, by building a culture that promotes sustainability and employee volunteering to support communities in countries which AXA operates.

The webinar, themed “Reducing Business Costs with Sustainability Programmes” held on Friday, June 24, 2022, with focus on the several types of sustainability initiatives that can be embarked on that will be helpful in reducing business costs and achieving a sustainable environment for everyone to live in.

Commenting on the initiative, Rashidat Adebisi, the Chief Clients Officer at AXA Mansard said, “As a leader in the global insurance space, we challenge ourselves to always be in the frontline of creating initiatives that solves problems. This is in line with our purpose which is to “Act for human progress by protecting what matters” thus, this value adding webinar was organized as part of the AXA Week for Good to engender co-creation of ideas to address a pressing problem that impacts all of us today.”

Present at the seminar were sustainability experts such as: Dr Femi Idowu-Adegoke, President Lagos Recyclers Association (LAGRA), Mrs Mariam Lawani, Founder of Greenhill recycling, Mrs Agharese Lucia Onaghise, Executive Secretary of the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance (FBRA), Mr Aniche Phil-Ebosie, Cleantech entrepreneur and renewable energy consultant

Speaking at the seminar Mrs Mariam Lawani noted: “Every business must decide on a course of action that benefits customers as well as the enterprise. Businesses must take responsibility for their actions and start prioritizing environmental advancement above profits. Our collective future is significantly influenced by the behaviour of current enterprises.”

Mrs Lawani added, “All industries will need to implement structural reforms and reinvest in the society in order to achieve the target SDGs by 2030.”

The company believes the AXA Week for Good initiative will create an occasion for not just its employees, but the entire society to learn more about the impact of waste on the environment and how to prevent, re-use and recycle waste whenever possible.

Rashidat concluded the session by reinforcing AXA’s believe that it's a collective responsibility to manage our impact on the environment by reducing resource use and promoting climate change awareness throughout the world.
