The immediate past Statistician General of Nigeria, Dr. Yemi Kalehas been described as a patriot and exceptional public servant, who broughtdynamism, innovation and transformation to the National Bureau of Statistics(NBS).

This was part of the remarks of public and private sector leadersat an event organized by Data Science Nigeria in partnership with Proshare tocelebrate the remarkable service of Dr. Yemi Kale.

In her opening remarks the Managing Director/CEO of Proshare, Mrs.Grace Adejare-Ajuwon lauded Dr. Yemi Kale for leading transformation andefficiency at the NBS, throughout his tenure. In her words "Data is the new oiland Dr. Kale has helped championed the cause and worked tirelessly andresiliently for a decade to enable us all access our nation's data easily andtimely."

Mr. Bayo Adekanmbi, the Founder, Data Science Nigeria on his partsaid the former DG of the NBS served with integrity and excellence, and stillmaintained intellectual sagacity.

The CEO, Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), Mr. 'LaoyeJaiyeola, commended Dr. Kale for his meritorious service at the NBS and formaking data a critical component for national planning and development. Dr. Doyin Salami, the Chairman of the Presidential EconomicAdvisory Committee in his remarks described Kale as an accomplished banker andpublic servant, who set a standard for data management that is useful forresearch, strategy, planning and economic policies.

On her part, Ms. Yewande Sadiku, the outgoing ExecutiveSecretary/CEO of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), commendedDr. Yemi Kale for being an outstanding public servant and patriot who wascommitted to his job. She further encourage all present to give forward, addingthat public service can be better if more private sector leaders take up thechallenge to get involved.

Mrs Ashley Immanuel, the CEO of Enhancing Financial Innovation andAccess, EFINA thanked the former Statistician-General of the Federation forenabling a strategic partnership, that helped EFINA to provide periodic reportson Nigeria's financial inclusion index. She also commended all the NBS teammembers that worked tireless especially during the Covid19 pandemic to stillensure timely data collation.

From the Sub-National level, Mrs Olayinka Ojo, a PrincipalStatistician with the Lagos Bureau of Statistics, thanked Dr. Yemi Kale for theefficiency and professionalism he brought to the NBS to reposition it as areference point for economic data, while inspiring states to develop their own models.

Other guests present including his colleagues and representativesfrom the NBS Board, EY, KPMG, Softcomm and Stears Business also lauded Dr. Kalefor setting a remarkable standard at the NBS and proving that good work can bedone in public service.

Delivering the toast at the event, the Chairman of ProshareNigeria, Mr. Olufemi Awoyemi, FCA eulogized the two-term Statistician-Generalfor his sacrifice, resilience and selflessness that has led to a robustNational Bureau of Statistics institution.

Awoyemi on behalf of all the private and public sectorprofessionals wished him all the best in his future endeavors.

In his response Dr. Yemi Kale said he was humbled by all theremarks and goodwill messages on his decade-service, adding that he was justdoing his job. He further called on more private sector players to be involvedin public service. According to him, the Nigerian public sector needs morevibrant hands to deliver productivity in service.
