A firm believer in the privatization of state-owned enterprises for value creation, His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON Nigeria’s former Vice President, has emerged as the flagbearer of the main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

At the end of the 2022 Presidential Primaries conducted ON Saturday at the National Stadium Velodrome, Abuja, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar polled 371 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, who got 237 votes.

Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki came third with 70 votes, while Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state polled 38 votes to claim the fourth position.

In what appeared to be the gamechanger at the PDP Presidential primaries, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state announced at the special convention that he was stepping down for Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku, who was the candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general elections, made his first attempt at the Presidency in 1993 under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

An indigene of Adamawa state, the former Vice President of Nigeria(1999 to 2007), played a key role in the liberalization of the telecommunications sector, amongst other sectors and led the drive for attracting foreign direct investments, FDIs into the country.

He also supported his principal, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, in appointing sound and competent technocrats into the Federal Executive Council.

The PDP Presidential Candidate promised to unify the country and restructure it to make the economy productive.
