Assets Invested In ETFs and ETPs Listed In Middle East and Africa Fell By $343m In April 2018

ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm on trends in the global ETF/ETP ecosystem, reported today that assets invested in ETFs and ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa decreased by 1.03% during April 2018 to reach US$37.92 Bn at the end of the month. (All dollar values in USD unless otherwise noted.)


Highlights 

·      Assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa saw net outflows of $365 Mn during April 2018, to reach $37.92 Bn

·         Year-to-date, ETFs and ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa saw net outflows of $1.72 Bn

 

According to ETFGI’s April Middle East and Africa ETF and ETP industry insights report, an annual paid-for research subscription service, assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa decreased $2.05 Bn during 2018.

April 2018 marked 7th consecutive month of net outflows into ETFs/ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa. During 2018 ETFs/ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa saw net outflows of $1.72 Bn; 56.13% more than net outflows for the same period in 2017.


The majority of these outflows can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs by net outflows, which collectively have suffered $432 Mn during 2018. The NewGold ETF (QLD SJ) on its own accounted for net outflows of $184 Mn.

Similarly, the top 10 ETPs by net outflows collectively gathered $1.12 Bn year-to-date.

Fixed Income ETFs/ETPs listed in Middle East and Africa suffered net outflows of $127 Mn in April, bringing net outflows for 2018 to $528 Mn. Equity ETFs and ETPs experienced net outflows of $126 Mn in April, bringing net outflows for 2018 to $693 Mn.


South-African commodity products suffered the most with NewGold ETF (GLD SJ) and NewPalladium ETF (NGPLD SJ) topping the list for net outflows.
